Hey, guys!!! So, I've noticed that SOME of us here on the MB take Riding Lessons, so I'm kinda curious, what Discipline do you ride (English or Western?)? Why do you like it? Have you, or would you want to, ride the opposite Discipline? If you HAVE ridden both disciplines, do you have a favorite, and which would you say is harder? And would you ever want to compete or show in your chosen discipline?
For those of you who don't take riding lessons, what discipline would you want to try and why? Would you want to compete in any horse shows (Show Jumping, Dressage, Barrel Racing, ETC.)?
Maybe this could become a riding chat, XD I DUNNO!!! LOL!!! I enjoy riding, and I got kinda curious about what you all thought as well!
I said earlier, but I can't wait till the outdoor area opens again so I can work on jumps!
Tbh, I kinda quit taking lessons since the place I was taking them was progressing us at a glacial pace (like seriously, I had been taking lessons semi consistently every winter for like 4-5 years, and I was still stuck doing ground poles and just barely learning the basics of loaping/cantering). But before then, I kinda got to try a pretty wide range of stuff. I spent most of my time riding a western/English hybrid sort of thing (we used western saddles, with direct reign), but later on we were slowly making the adjustment to riding entirely English. As an unpopular opinion, I'm kinda indifferent to which one is better, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would have to be riding with a western saddle even though it's a big of a pain to move around.
I love English its wat easyer
I ride English have been for about 1 ½ years and rode Western for about ½ year, I personally like English more, but wouldn't mind competing in Barrel Racing.
I would have been taking riding lessons 2 years this April.
I have been getting into jumping, need to work on my canter though :/ Just it kinda scares me, like I'm going to fall off, (though I have fallen twice XD)
I would love to do Show Jumping or Eventing (like what Riverbreeze does)
English is DEFINITELY more technical, especially with leg position (took me like 4 lessons to get it down)
I love having tight rein (compared to loose rein with western) honestly just makes me feel more safe 😂,
Western saddles are just uncomfortably to me, they are way to wide, sompared to English Saddles.
I have lessons about once a week/2 weeks, depends wjem I earn enough service hours
The place I ride every 10 service hours is a free lesson.
Random picture of me jumping (personally my best jump yet XD)
Gah my position is so bad :/ this was taken in like Novemberish, and my Half-Seat as improved SOOO much , same with my heels, though the Horse name is Leo, he's a German warmblood, and I think he's 16 hands?
Also- here is a picture of me riding Western (cringe warning this was taken in July 2019 so I have improved LOTS)
Yeahhhh 😅 this horse had a bouncy trot, and it was my first time riding him as well, plus my parents were there, so extra stress to do the best I could.
Sooo yeah this is a long comment
I ride English and I someday want to compete in show jumping but I only started a year and a half ago so not yet....
I ride English as well XDD Specifically, Eventing(dressage, show jumping, and cross country) I've been riding for 5 years. I do competitions, but I've only been competing for 3-ish years.
I love English because it's...I've always ridden English and it makes me feel fancy XD
No, I would probably not want to ride western (unless we go on like a trail ride or something) but I wouldn't want to barrel race or do reining or anything the western riders do. It's just not up my alley and it doesn't interest me as much as English does.
PERSONALLY, i think English is harder. Western is definitely hard! Buttttttt......English is slightly more technical and it has more rules so I think English is slightly harder.
I ride English would have been riding for three years if it weren't for stupid CORONA *death glare at corona*. My barn still does lessons, and has been doing lessons, I just personally had to stop because I'm pretty high risk. I've jumped a couple times, and was getting really good and comfortable with cantering, and my lesson group was going to start jumping more often when I had to stop. I really want to so dressage when I start riding again, though, it looks like SO MUCH FUN!
I ride English but I haven't gotten to doing any thing like barrels, jumping or stuff yet sadly. I really want to learn how to jump.
I want to ride Western but I think I'll like English better because though Western is said to be easier, I think English is jus more my style. idk
Uhhh... welp, I would love to start riding again. I haven't for a while though, but I might start again soon. Near my house there's ranch, but with covid and all idk what's gonna happen
I used to ride English when I was 6, then when I rode again I switched the western. I find western easier and more comfortable for me. I LOVE barrel racing and would like to compete
