Heat rose up her neck and she spurred Arenathe gently to move forward and up. She flew a few wing lengths away before stopping to hover in midair. She stared into the forest and could’ve sworn she saw something move, but she quickly brushed off the thought and went back to running through all the reasons she hadn’t become a rider.
Her face flushed and she instantly felt awkward. "Uh.. I-I don't....." she trailed off into her own doubts and regrets when this was brought up. Arenathe turned her head and flicked her ears forward to Tora, wondering what was wrong with her rider.
Xylia watched as Tora practiced the move, and was amazed by how fast she and Aranathe picked it up. "Why haven't you joined the Sky Guard." asked Xylia after a wile
Tora:She let out the breath she was holding. She hadn't done bad! She grinned at Xylia and practiced the move over and over until she could do the third step comfortably.
Her eyes grew wide at the complicated steps of this tricks. She had once done something similar at a show, but she hadn't done it for years. She took in a deep breath, and set off in a series of whistles that caused Arenathe to do these things. Arenathe shot upward while spinning upside down, her wings tucked t an interesting angle, and pointed her hooves up. Tora adjusted her position through all of this, taking in the way it looked and felt to do this part of the trick. When Tora whistled for Arenathe to stop, she looked towards Xylia, properly sitting on the horses back and asked, "Was that even close to right?"
"Pretty good." said Xylia, noting that yet again, Tora was a little bit high, but that was probably a result of the first ascent. "The last part of this is, getting Aranathe to fly up at the same time as spinning upside down so her hooves are pointed up so she can kick off the belly of an opponent. Then once she's kicked off, she's gotta flip back around to your right side up."
The girl nodded, bit her lip, and concentrated. She blew a very strong yet low note and Arenthe dipped quickly. Tora slid the note up an octave within a second and Arenathe spread her wings, shooting up even quicker before.
Xylia nodded in approval, but noted Tora let Arenathe get a little higher that was preferred, but it wasn't bad for a first try. "Okay, now you have to dive," she said, "But you'll have to pull her out of it pretty fast, so be prepared for that."
She nodded and demonstrated that she could do it by whistling A high pitched note, and Arenathe shot up a few feet, then stopped when Tora whistled a lower note.
"So this is actually a series of commands," said Xylia as she began to explain. "The first thing you gotta do is get Aranathe to fly up fast. I think you have that part, right?"
She smirked, and called down to Sira, "Don't worry, we know what we're doing." said Xylia, giving Vigilans a pat on the shoulder, and tuned back to the now very pale looking Tora, "Wanna try?"
She shivered but didn’t move when Vigilans woodshed by her stomach. She pinned her ears and glared at Vigilans, clearly unhappy. “Didn’t have to almost slice my belly open and cost my rider more..“ she grouched.
Tora:
She paled when Vigilans and Xylia nearly harmed her steed, but she trust3ed her friend, and sure enough, Arenathe was fine. She let out her breath she had been holding, and grinned at Xylia. “Nice moves! I don’t do that jerky of moves...” she trailed off in thought, wondering if she could perform the same trick after some practice.
She had gotten Tekuri groomed and she put the bridle on, which Tekuri wasn't too happy about. Sira grabbed a training saddle and slung it over his back, ignoring his pinned ears.
The training saddle was basically a normal saddle but instead of leather, the insides were filled with sand, giving the saddle more weight. It gives the impression of a human sitting on their back so that the steed can start to get used to how that feels.
She cinched up the girth to the saddle, and walked him out toward the arena. Her plan was just to walk him around and lunge him. She walked out at the same time when Xylia was showing-off her new trick. Sira peered into the sky and smirked. After Xylia had finished her trick, Sira called up to them. "Carful, Xylia! You were about a millimeter off from slicing Arenethe's stomach in half!" Sira said, enjoying teasing her friends.
She chuckled to herself and opened the gate to the training arena.
"Well, most of what we know is how to stay out of combat." Said Xylia, patting Vigilans on the neck again, " But we do know some basic moves just in case. " To demonstrate, Xylia gave her mount the signal to do a battle move the pair had just mastered, and Vigilans obeyed by suddenly shooting up to just above Tora and Lilith's heads. He then went into a steep nose dive for a fraction of a second, and once he was clear of the other steeds hooves, spread his wings causing him to shoot up again at the same time as he twisted around, missing Aranathe by a hair. If he had been any closer to her, she would have ended up with two deep gashes on her underside and most likely a few broken ribs.
(Well, we're kinda waiting for Cats to be less busy and Riverbreeze to get back from her trip rn, but wile we're waiting, would you like to give you a run down on how things work in the Sandwen clans? I know you said you haven't read ROTR yet, and I'll try to avoid spoilers)

Lilith stared at her in questioning.
What made her turn away from being a Rider?, her mind thought genuinely.
