When i'm making requests they look good right (well maybe just ok)? but when i draw for myseld it looks like legit HORSEY POOP! is this the same for anyone?
You are a great artist, Em! And improving every time! Like Dragon said, since your the artist, you see tiny details other people don't notice. I try not to compare myself to other people. But sometimes I am like..."no one EVER is going to see this" and then burn it. Not literally but figuratively.
Ha ha! This happens to me all the time! I honestly just think it has something to do with the fact that you want your character to be 100% perfect which is pretty much never going to happen since you'll always be able to find something wrong with it. Tbh, I think it's just part of being an artist
I agree with what River said! Your art is first and foremost for YOU. YES, you're drawing it for someone, YES, it's not your character, but YOU, and ONLY YOU put the effort into the drawing. YES, it may not be perfect by your standards, but that is what dedication and hard work is for! Practice, practice, PRACTICE! Look up references and take ideas from real life! Draw things your not comfortable with (If you're not comfortable drawing a full horse body, try that!). Try new things! ALL of this can help you improve on your art style!
IF you want...I can show you where practice and dedication got me to over multiple years by showing you one of my OLDEST pieces I have on my tablet. It's not my WORST art by any means, I've had tons and TONS of art pieces done on drawing boards over the years before my tablet that were a lot worse, XD
I can't say much more then my friend River said! But I think as long as you have fun doing it, it doesn't matter what it looks like. Your art looks great and I have seen you improve so much in even the small amount of time I've known you. As you draw more, you will find your art will change more and more!! I doubt my art and how it looks quite often. Whether it's good or not and all of that, but I have fun!
Ember, your art looks GREAT, you don't need to confirm with us about that. I have that problem too. I have a great drawing idea in my head, and then when I actually end up doing it, it looks completely different from what I had in mind. Just know that even when you do art for other people, it is still for yourself more than anything. You still created it, you still put the effort into it, and you are the one keeping it. It might not be your character or anything like that, but it is still YOUR art. If you don't like how the art with your own ideas turns out, maybe keep practicing with requests and trades, and then try out what you learned on that.
