November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and I thought that I would make a competition here for it! The goal of NaNoWriMo is to set a word count goal for yourself over the course of the month, and to follow through with it.
Last year, my aim was 10,000 words and I wrote a story for Firesong’s Complex Competition. I found it to be a very rewarding experience, as I was able to increase my writing stamina and actually finish a longer story. My goal this year is 15,000, and I am excited to get ready!
The Details!
The challenge is to set a word count for yourself in November to get as close as you can to fulfilling that goal! The word count should be something that challenges you! Anyone is welcome to participate, and I will score you off how close you get to your goal not the size of your goal itself.
Prizes!
The winners of the competition depend on how everything turns out.
If several people end up passing their goals: the first two people to reach their word count goals will get prizes.
If no one ends up passing their goals: the person closest to their word count goal will get a prize.
The winner(s) will get one ekphrastic poem written by me. An ekphrastic poem is a poem that is inspired by a picture. I will ask you to provide me with three pictures, and I would choose one to create a poem from. These pictures could be ones that you have made, someone else has made, or something that you find off of the web.
Preptober!
Preptober is the planning month before the month of November. If people are interested, I will make various posts in October to help you plan you story idea. Each post would prompt you to plan one aspect of your story. Examples would be plot, character development, and world building.
For more information about NaNoWriMo, you can visit these sites. Both of them allow you to keep track of your word count and contain useful resources to help you.
I'm going for 10,000 words this year!
I've read some amazing fanfic that were written for NaNoWriMo, i love it ;) i won't be taking part, I'm not much of a writer anymore, (I also just don't have time with school), however, if anyone wants me to draw their characters or story concepts for them, I'd love to!
hmmmm… you’ve seen some of my work Morning, should I set my bar higher?
Okay, I'm in. I may not get anywhere close, but we'll see. ABSOLUTELY make guidance posts! Also, just based on the little you know about me, what do you recommend as a word count?
Aright I think my goal should be maybe 12000 if I can write 3000 in one day. So it should be entertaining.
I'll try! I'll set my goal at 5,000 words (I know its low but Im not really a writer anymore)
9 i want to do that")
I am in! Very excited and committed! ;)
So should we use the website, or can we just use a Google doc and pose it on the MB?
There is absolutely NO WAY I’m gonna miss this! I’m in!
Alright, I’ll join and work on stuff if I have any extra school time! Same for Pretober! Can’t wait!
Oh wow! That's really cool. At my school, we have young writers competition each month, but this sounds like a bit of an extra challenge. Not to mention I'm already starting a story that my friend is helping cultivate so perhaps I could use this as an opportunity to...do it.
And the Preptober sounds awesome 😎
I'm SO joining!
This looks like a lot of fun! I’ll have to think about joining :)
