So, apparently many of the members of the message board think that it would be wonderfully entertaining to watch (or read) an argument between Dragon and myself. Of course, I respond to peer pressure, so here we are.
First topic: Which series written by Jennifer Lynn Alvarez is better or the best? I will argue that Riders of the Realm is better, meaning that Dragon has the topic of arguing that The Guardian Herd is better.
Everyone else, get the popcorn and a comfy seat. We'll be here for a while.
wow
Very true.
Yes, but giving Starfire to pegasi is a completely new, and very original idea. And there are other things that set TGH apart from most other equine focused books, the plain fact that humans are not a major part in the series. Like seriously, a good majority of books about horses, unicorns, pegasi, etc. All have one thing in common, a large human presence. TGH is one of the only series I've seen that rarely mentions them in the 'mane' series, and only really brings them in for extra short stories.
Hmmm yeah
Exactly! All other books about riding pegasi are retellings and variations of Greek myths. ROTR is not that at all. It's not necessarily a new idea, but the take on it is certainly original.
That's the one
They also named the place where Helle fell off the ram into waters, Hellespoint.
Yeah like Bellerophon and Pegasus? And then the golden fleece animal thingy (Chrysomallus? Krios?)with Helle and Phrixus to Colches I believe then later on taken back by the Argonauts and the Argo led by Jason of the Argonauts for a quest given from Pelias for Kingship or something and they brought back Medea who killed her brother and turned into a psychopathic lady, chopping up the king and then killing their children I think. sorry got carried away xD
Well, based off the little bit of research I did a most of the books involving pegasi, are mostly just retellings of the original Greek myth
yes, could you name a few beside Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Pegasus? I need a few books to read :P
That and others
You mean the Pegasus series? :P
Riding pegasi would be cool. But here's the thing, there are a ton of stories already in print about humans managing to tame a flying horse, and embarking on epic adventures. I'm not saying ROTR is just a regurgitation of the older stories, but I would like to point out that riding pegasi isn't a new thing. Starfire on the other hand is. As far as I know, there are no other books/book series that features a pegasus that gains the ability weild a power (like starfire), and has to chose rather to use this 'gift' for good... Or evil.
Now to answer Flamefrost's question about which series I would chose to live in, I would have to say TGH. Not because I'm biased or anything, but because A) I know how the story ends, and B) Who wouldn't want to live in Anok, especially if they know Star is in charge
I think flying would be rather thrilling (Sowzy Dragon) but i'm at a stand. Dunno which one -Shrugs-
Its not the starfire itself thats scary- its the wielder. They have the control over it.
well... no offense, Dragon, but I have to agree with Flamefrost. ROTR for me!
and, for the rhetorical-that-isn't-rhetorical question, it would also be ROTR. Like he or she said, (no offense) Starfire is really scary. but, on the other hand, flying is dangerous. like, dragons and giants?
I know that was intended as a rhetorical question, but I will attempt to answer it. People riding pegasi is better than a starfire battle, but in a very different way. First, it is highly unlikely that anyone will be killed during a flying encounter. Starfire, on the other hand, can be destructive.
So, another rhetorical-that-isn't-rhetorical question for you: Which of the two series would you like to be a character (or OC) in? Why?
Okay fine, one of the reasons TGH is better then ROTR, is because of the black foals. I mean, what's more awesome then a pair of super powered black pegasi blasting away at each other with starfire?
(Romaine lettuce had an E coli breakout 0.0, and they said in the Morning Announcements, we woukld have romaine lettuce for lunch. Me: WHAT YOU WANT US TO GET SICK? OK THEN WE ALREADY HAD A TWO HOUR DELAY FOR SNOW! oh well,Maybe they wanted to serve it but couldn't and forgot to take it away from the MA?)
See this is why I go to Parli Pro every second week of the month. Its way easier to come up with debate.
