I've done 1 are challenge that I've really gotten to do something with. I've done like 3 that nobody is interested in. Can you give me tips? and before you say it I do, do prizes but not art they are short story's.
Hey i love doing art challenges! My tips are definitely make it interesting and with clear instructions. Give the participants some guidance in what to make. Take your time to make a clear, thought out post. Mine usually take like 30min to make. I like to make them look nice and professional lol. But also make sure you have clear rules and deadlines. You don't want to give too much leeway to the participants, so you have to be fairly strict. (dont be rude though haha)
Yeah. I think you should focus on not having people draw a very specific thing, it's more fun when you get to be creative. Also, when there is more then one winner. You could try having the first place prize being that short story, and maybe the 2nd being a head shot, and the 3rd a feather!
People will be more willing to do or draw something that they are interested in, so maybe broaden the scope slightly? For example, broaden your category of two ships into the ships of that role play, or role play ships in general.
Like @Riverglade said, timing is key. If there's to much other stuff going on, participants will likely have a hard time getting the challenge done
Make sure that the goal of you challenge is as clear as possible. I don't seem to remember this being on issue with any your challenges, but this is a SUPER important thing
Give a far out deadline. Challenges with deadlines that fall 3-4 weeks after the start tend to have a better success rate
@Nighthorn(Blackweb) That's also a tricky thing because if there's no deadline I've found that people often forget about the challenge and it never really ends
Try to make it when there aren't any other art challenges or trades going on, because chances are that a lot of people will be doing those, but might be too busy to take on another one.
