She glanced behind her, "No, Kifo. You didn't make me mad." She turned back forward and trotted faster, puffing out her wings. "I'm just ready to get back to the clearing."
He stumbled off of Dovefrost’s back, refusing to be carried around. He also did not like leaving the ground, and he turned to canter alongside them, matching pace and answered, “It’s not me we need to worry about, Vida!” He flicked his ears behind him when he noticed Silren and Astro galloping up to them, also escaping a dazed wolf that would seen come out of its temporary torpor. He was glad to see all of them okay, but was worried for Vida. Even from the ground, he could still clearly see the scratches and bites running along her left flank and back muscles. Of course, he expression still betrayed nothing and remained in its stiff position.
“C’mon, Thea!” He commanded, his voice resonate and firm as she scrambled towards the tree. “I’ll go and help Vida,” he promised as he bolted in the opposite direction. He was worried, but not even that could break through his hard mask of indifference and determination as he sped towards Vida and Dovefrost, straight towards the ice tigers.
She panicked as she saw a gray figure dive down from a tree. Originally, she had thought it was another ice tiger, but then noticed the figure too big for that, and realized it was Astro coming to her rescue. She bolted in the direction of the foals, following Astro as quickly as she could. She felt much gratitude towards him and wondered why everyone thought him so rough around the edges. He had just saved her life, and nothing she could ever do would repay him. “Thank you, Astro!” She shouted to him as she continued to gallop after him.
"What a day." muttered Lilith, as she rushed after the other foals. She briefly wondered if they remembered that ice tigers were actually quite skilled at climbing trees, and pegasi -- especially ones that couldn't fly yet -- were next to useless at it. But as they ran, it seemed more likely that the foals of Shadow Herd would just keep on going, and would hopefully eventually out run their pursuers.
Astro-
Astro had been to far away to hear Iden's warning about the ice tigers, and was still his tree as the rest of Shadow Herd pelted away. He was about to go after them, when he suddenly noticed one of the tigers, and realized with horror that it appeared to be stalking Silren who had not been able to travel as fast as the others on account of her much to large wings. Thinking quickly, Astro snapped off a near by branch, and dropped it on the head of the tiger. Confused, it stopped and looked around, then down at the stick. Without hesitating, Astro took the opportunity to dive, and he managed to land a few quick blows to it's head.
Normally, this would have done nothing to the cat, but a few months before, Astro had figured out how to sharpen his hooves, and considering that he and his herd mates were in a constant state of danger, he had chosen to maintain them. So, as he flapped away, the tiger was left with a few semi deep cuts on it's head. Not enough to kill it, but it was enough to leave it in a dazed, "Run Silren!" Astro shouted, "Run!"
Upon looking over her shoulder, she saw Bakari and Anblick both searching for something. She slowed a little, not wanting to leave them. She slowed to where she was cantering alongside Bakari. Thea asked, "What's wrong? Who are you looking for?" She called to both the colts.
Anblick:
He responded with a worried whinny, "It's Silren. I can't see her and I don't know where she is!" He called to Thea and Bakri, who also looked anxious about something.
At the new idea he was perplexed and then whispered, “Uh, Thea? Silren and I cannot fly just yet, so that plan wouldn’t work. I suggest we take to the canopies and hide in the thickest branches,” he snorted, pointing his wing to a certain thick spot. He knew some jaguars could climb trees, but he had heard that they were native to a jungle extremely far south from where he stood. So, he figured that Marlcloud knew best, and Marlcloud was the one who had taught him to always try to get into the canopies. Of course, he and Silren would have to work harder since they couldn’t fly, but the others would be safe.
At the sound of his name, he followed Bumbleberry to the strong mare who was most likely his dam. "H-Hello... Y-Your son was ver-ry brave..." He stuttered, feeling awkward around this large mare before him. Anblick glanced at Bumbleberry and winked to the colt, playfully.
She watched as Vida fell and she gasped. She rushed over with Bakari. "If only I can help! Gosh, I wish someone had healing powers..." She thought as she cantered over. She smiled as she saw Vida trying to stand.
Vida still didn't look good, but at least she wasn't dead.
Thea hadn't heard anything of what Vida told Bakari about Thea having feelings toward him. So, when she arrived she smiled sweetly at Bakari, then smiled at Vida. "You okay?" She asked, genuinely concerned. "You must be strong to survive after eating those death berries." She said again, trying to comfort Vida because she didn't know what else to do.
Dovefrost was irritated that people kept asking her that, "My name is Dovefrost. I live here. And Marlcloud is right there." She pointed her wing tip at her.
Vida glared at him, "I Want to die!" She mumbled. She opened her mouth a little. "What do You care about me, You have Thea or Iden you don't need to worry about me!"
His gaze resumed its calm and coolness as he sternly commanded, “Vida, open your mouth. If you die because of this, I swear to you I will suffer from now until my death.”
Astro watched as Vida fell to the ground and called out for help. The gray colt couldn't help but feel distain for the other foal, everything she did was just so dramatic. Ture, this time it did seem a bit warranted, but still, telling what's-his-name ?Raphael? that she wasn't going to make it did seem a bit much. And it didn't seem to help the situation when some random mare dropped in out of nowhere and started ordering the foals around. Where was Merlcloud? Hadn't she been very clear about the fact that the foals were to ovoid contact with unknown pegasi? Also, it did seemed a bit troubling that this mare was able to find the camp, like, the foals weren't even able to find it very easily and they lived there!
He swiveled his ears in two directions; the first was to Thea, who had just entered the clearing, and the second was to Vida, ill on the ground. Figuring Vida needed more help at the moment, he galloped over to where she currently lay, convulsing on the ground. Behind his calm and collected mask, his heart was racing in fear and anxiety. He didn’t want Vida to die, especially not from a few berries. So he went with Raphael to get her lots of water to force down her throat. It was painstaking, and by the end he wouldn’t have even been ab;e to fly if his wings worked, his feathers were so soaked.
"My mother taught me enough I can cure some things, What was she eating? Sow me the food!" She walked over to Vida and opened her mouth, out spilled some forest berries. Vida flinched and moved away.
"She ate those!" Dovefrost shouted. "They are poison. Get me some water. Hurry!"
Raphael flinches away, wishing his own mother cared for him. “Get a medicine mare from somewhere! Is anyone a healer! Are you a healer?” He asks Dovefrost.
Raphael leaps up and sprints for the rest of the herd. “Vida is hurt! Help!“ He bellows as load as he can. “Help!” He runs back to vida, barely noticing the strange mare. “I got help! Hold on! It will be okay.” He doesn’t even try to hold back the tears. “It will be okay vida.”
Raphael stands in silence for a few minutes, then starts to eat as well. His mind briefly flicks to redlea, his mother, and how she helped drive him from willow herd. He blinks rapidly to get rid of the tears and forces another smile while he eats
”I am Raphael. Are you hurt?” Raphael looks concerned and shifts his weight from hoof to hoof. “I have had more than enough wounded and dead in my life. If you are, you should get a medicine mare“ he looks sad, then forces a smile. “Who are you?”
"Hey Kifo can I go do something?" She asked her brother.
"Sure, Vida."
Vida walked slowly over to the foal they called Raphael. His eyes were like her's and Lilith's and all the other foals, showing the hurt, despair and hope. "Hi.... W Who are you?"
She still was not intimidated by any of them, in fact sending a glare in the direction of Duskwing for reacting so violently, as if she were scolding one of her foals. When she listened to Strikewing, she hid her shock. Vida and Kifo? The two new arrivals?
Vida:Vida looked up and gave a short squeal, "KIFO!" She jumped into the sky and flew to her brothers side.
"Vida your here." They laughed and landed.
Vida saw the foal they called Raphael. She glanced at him from under her forelock. She wondered about him, he seemed kind and she debated walking over to him. She shook her mane and turned away.
Bumbleberry:Flying with Anblick had made him tired, "A... Ablick?" Bumbleberry tried to speak. "P... Play?"
Strikewing:"Not killing you and your foal was my Mistake Marl and I will not make it again! Dovefrost," He spat the name, "Should Die! S-"
"I don't think that I should die because I care about them, Marlcloud is my best friend." Dovefrost said calmly.
"Then you know about the twins!" Strikewing laughed.
"What... What twins?" Dovefrost said.
"Your twins. The ones that you thought died."Dovecloud gave a short scream, "WHAT!!"
Strikewing said, "Yes your twins. The dead ones, or not. They were some of Marl's foals and so I banished them and 2 months later found them in the vein with Mistburr and Thunderbrook. You foals are called, 'Vida and Kifo' and they are alive." He relished her look of shock.
Astoria- Astoria walked into the clearing, spreading her wings for the first time in what seemed like days. She looked around and was completely mesmerized by what she saw. After a while, she looked over and saw Vida crying. Like the motherly figure Astoria was, she walked over and put one large wing over Vida's back, pulling her close. (I know Astoria is younger than Vida, but she is a motherly-like figure.) "What's wrong, Vida?"
Jadecloud-Jadecloud flared her nostrils, angrily. She backed up, and took off, a large dark blotch against the bright blue sky. "I will get them... And my filly will die soon enough..."
The mare’s eyes widened in utter shock, even though her expression quickly smoothed over as the conversation continued.
They thought her innocent? They thought it rude and disrespectful for Strikewing to say such things? This couldn’t have been better! As she leaned farther forward to get a better look of the newcomers, she made note of their colors, their height, and their wingspan’s. When the lead-mare spoke up, her nose wrinkled in utter disgust. Death as a punishment? For what? Wanting to be with her foal, or just simply choosing between two herds?
As she listened in, she began to have half a mind about jumping down. Technically, she was a leader, and currently, the votes were at a tie. Strikewing and Jadecloud wanted her dead, whereas Dustwing and Adakitewing wanted her alive.
As the though grew on her, she took the bait and gracefully glided down from her perch in the highest of the trees. The first reaction out of the other leaders was pure shock and utter hostility. She quickly said in a loud voice, “I am Marlcloud, the lead-mare of Shadow Herd, and I find it within my right to vote on her punishment. After all, I am still in a position of power, with or without an over-stallion.” The one who she figured out was Adakitewing bowed his head and approval.
What Marlcloud didn’t know was that Adakitewing was impressed with the fact Marlcloud had survived the birth. most others hadn’t, and had been stubborn and loyal enough to stay with her foal, and to protect the rest.
Bakari:
He stumbled off of Dovefrost’s back, refusing to be carried around. (wowzers)
Dovefrost:
Lilith annoyed her, "I just moved here." She whistled for Bumbleberry and he came trotting to her. "Mama look, my friend Ablick."
"I am Merlcloud's best friend. I trust her with my life and the lives of my foals, all 3 of them."
Dovefrost:
Dovefrost was irritated that people kept asking her that, "My name is Dovefrost. I live here. And Marlcloud is right there." She pointed her wing tip at her.
( Well, then why is she getting close to Bakari? )
Vida:
Vida coughed and said, 'Dovefrost may I eat?"
"Yes," Dovefrost said.
Vida said gently to Bakari, "Can you get me some moss or something."
