Frostfire trotted through the snow. He looked at his family, content. His mother had abandoned him, his father was dead, his grandfather had bullied him, and the rest of his dam’s family barely even knew him, but now he had Larksong and Starfrost. And Larksong was pregnant with their second foal! He went over to Starfrost, who was asleep. "Wake up," Frostfire said. He wanted to show Starfrost something. "Hmm?" Starfrost sat up. "Come with me," Frostfire said. His colt bounced after him as he led. When they got there, Starfrost whispered, "I love it!" Frostfire had taken him to a circle of bushes covered in tiny yellow flowers and dark purple berries. Growing on the branches of the trees were little flowers the exact color of Larksong's wings. "Try them," Frostfire encouraged. Starfrost tried the berries. "They're good!" he exclaimed. Frostfire saw Larksong come out of the trees. "Don't leave me out!" she said. Later, she took Frostfire aside. "You probably should apologize to Star someday," she said. "I will, one day," Frostfire responded. "Soon," said Larksong. "Okay," said Frostfire. He could never say no to her, and they both knew it. Frostfire flew to River Herd a few days later. He apologized and asked Star for forgiveness. Frostfire fully expected Star to yell at him, but instead he said, "Of course I forgive you. I always have. You just had to ask." Morningleaf came over. She was clearly pregnant with Star's foal. "...I forgive you, too," Morningleaf said. It was the last thing Frostfire expected to come out of her mouth. "Thank you," Frostfire said. "Thank you." That evening, Frostfire went back to his family and curled up beside Larksong. He had never been happier.
