The second of the Flashbacks has arrived! This one is especially important because it details the birth and backstory of my favorite OC, Skypetal!

(circa Windborn chapter 27)

Violetflight looked back in the direction of the valley fearfully. If she was going to escape with her family, she had to do it now. Petalcloud’s foal was coming, and most of the Ice Warriors were guarding her. Violetflight’s mate, Leafstorm, was right behind her, as was their yearling foal Darkfir. Violetflight stumbled. “The foal is coming soon!” she gasped. After what felt like forever, they arrived in an open clearing. Soon, Violetflight gave birth to a healthy filly. She was a gray pinto with a blaze and one front anklet. Her jewel-bright feathers were sea green with gold centers. The filly’s eyes were sea-green too, just like her mother’s. Leafstorm and Darkfir stepped closer to Violetflight to meet their new family. Darkfir nuzzled his little sister. “What will you name her?” he asked. “Her name is Skypetal” Violetflight responded. “Then you and ‘Skypetal’ are coming with us” came a voice. Three huge Ice Warriors advanced towards them. Skypetal, who had stood up, hid behind her mother. ”Run!” whinnied Leafstorm, charging the stallions. Darkfir flew to his father, clubbing one of the stallions with his hoof. Violetflight ran with Skypetal into the woods. They ran for several minutes, then took shelter in a hidden cave. After a few minutes, Darkfir joined them, as Leafstorm had pushed him away, telling him to run. From the cave, they all heard the crack of hoof against bone, then silence. Leafstorm was in the golden meadow now. But the Ice Warriors could never find the rest of the family. They were free. Skypetal looked at her mother, understanding that her father was dead. Neither her mother nor anyone else could ever have guessed that this filly, born in tragedy, would one day change the world.
