The moment we've all been waiting for... Riversun's story!

Riversun trotted across the grass toward a shady grove of trees. She went over and curled up to sleep. She had nightmares. Again. Every time she closed her eyes she saw the destruction in the valley, she saw her father destroying the tribute, which then fell, killing her mother. She saw the terrified pegasi in the valley as the black stallions battled, remembering how she had been alone during the battle. Her foster mother hated her, because after Petalcloud died, she had been forced by Stormwing to nurse her. Stormwing had killed her foal, Brighthoof. She saw that in her nightmares all the time, too. She saw her only living kin, Starfrost, walking away with his family after Star killed Nightwing. Riversun had been grabbed by Stormtail, who became Stormwing after starting Night Herd. She woke up, gasping. She went over to her foster mother, Redwind. She never tried to talk to her, just nursed. Riversun walked toward the elders, but a long shadow stretched toward her. Stormwing. "What are you doing?" he asked. "J-just going over to the elders," she answered. "You know you're not allowed to associate with other pegasi," Stormwing said. "especially the ones that will fill your head with stories!" He snapped his wing toward her and hit her, hard. The blow knocked her over. Riversun wished she could just once do something she wanted to do, without Stormwing over her shoulder. Her whole life, her earliest memories had been of two black stallions trying to kill each other, the death of her mother, Starfrost leaving, and Stormwing yanking her away by her mane. It seemed like there were new rules every day for what to do, or rather, what not to do. No talking about Star, no associating with elders, no hearing legends and stories, no going beyond Petal Meadow, no crying about anything, ever, and never, ever, contradict Stormwing. Riversun walked back to her grove and watched the sunset for a while, then went back to sleep, even though she knew it would all be nightmares again.
