Before we start, some of you who started when I first began DOA might remember that Ashfrost had a twin sister, named Cinderfrost (created by Cinder ofc) and I thought I might bring her back. BUT I would like to ask you, @Cinderfrost (Sunblaze) if I might be able to bring back Cinderfrost into the RP (Slightly changed) and use her in my story. If not, I can change the name or whatever but I thought I would ask you. Though...come to think of it I haven't seen you so...yeah if you see this or if someone who can get in touch with her?
Now, Chapter 2 :)
Chapter 2
Two young foals had awoken early, and in the morning light snuck to wake their parents. The pair of twins were named Ashfrost and Cinderfrost. Ashfrost was a grey colt with white creeping up his belly and feathered legs. In the early light and fresh dew, his blue wings with their frosted white glistened. Cinder was a beautiful steel grey with a few white patches, and red feathers fading to black.
This was the day that their parents, Frostwing and Ashsong, had promised to set aside their duties as leaders and take their foals to the secluded plunge pool. Frostwing was overstallion of Ice Herd and Ashsong was commander of Fire Herd.
1,000 years ago, Starfire was exterminated from New Anok when the Great Protector separated the pegasus kind from the humans. In return, the herds were changed to Fire, Ice, Water, Storm, Earth, and Shadow, each with their own particular elemental abilities.
Cinderfrost and Ashfrost peeked over their dam's red wing. "Momma? Mom! Time to wake up!" They giggled as they shook her awake, tugging on her ears. Ashsong yawned, smiling. "Is it? I don't know…it's too early!" She casually pushed the twins off with her wing and rolled over, pretending to snore.
The foals screeched with laughter. "No really! Today's the day!" They trotted around to stare into her eyes until she started to get up. "Let's wake your father!" Ashsong said mischievously. Someone cleared their throat.
Frostwing stood regally, "no need. I already am." He smiled at his family. The twins squealed and rushed to his side, shoving underneath his almost see-through blue feathers.
"Are you ready?" Ashsong asked.
"Yes!" The twins replied in unison. Frostwing nodded. "Let's go!" They lifted off the ground, with Cinderfrost drifting off of her dam, and Ashfrost his sire. They looked at each other, knowing the same thought was running through their minds. This was going to be the best day ever.
It was rare for them to get to spend time with their parents. The oversteeds we're constantly getting called away on business. Ashsong especially had her wings full with Fire Herd. Fights were continually breaking out between mares and stallions alike. Some were threatening her status as leader.
One night, Ashfrost had stayed up stargazing and overheard his parents talking. Frostwing was suggesting that Ashsong abandon her herd and live in Ice full time. She had had yet another brawl for power. "You can't keep risking your safety, and the safety of our twins!" The white stallion argued.
"Frostwing, I'm being careful. And if I leave, Fire Herd will certainly go down. It's already bad enough, I barely have any control. Countless steeds are being tormented by the bigger ones. I have to do what I can." Ashsong stroked her mate's feathers with her faded black ones. Frostwing sighed.
"How I long for the old days…"
Cinderfrost rost tackled Ashfrost with a flying leap that landed them both in the pool. He came up spluttering. "Whatcha thinking about?" She asked, slowly flapping her wings in the water to float.
Ashfrost glanced at their parents. "I'll tell you later," he whispered. Louder, he whinnied, "Mom, Dad! Come swim!"
They laughed, standing up to come to the water's edge. "Fire and water don't really mix, honey," Ashsong nickered. Cinder frost flapped a mini wave at her dam. "But I'm in here."
Cinderfrost had shown fire powers like her mother as opposed to Frostwing and Ashfrost's ice.
Ashsong shook her head, laughing, and stepped in. "Only for you dear." Frostwing took a step on the water, freezing a small part under his hoof. He grinned at Ashfrost's bewildered look. "You can do this too," he said.
"How?!" Ashfrost plowed out of the small pool. Frostwing stepped back and walked him through it. "Feel the ice flow through your hooves and solidify as a platform. Attach that platform to the water, holding it still so you can walk, essentially, on water."
Ashfrost nodded and concentrated. His first steps had him slipping and crashing into the pool. He shook himself off, grinning, before trying again. And again. And again. Cinderfrost giggled, watching.
After about 10 tries, Ashfrost finally managed. He reared in triumph! "I did it!" He neighed, thrashing his front hooves, accidentally setting him off balance and causing him to fall over, splashing. He popped back up just as quickly, shaking his light grey mane.
"That's awesome." Cinderfrost splashed to swim under the waterfall. She popped up behind it and yelled, "come on! It's fun!" Her voice was muffled, but the family laughed and joined her. For several hours, they splashed and had fun. After, they relaxed by the poolside, drying off in the afternoon sunlight.
Ashfrost sighed contentedly. "Love you guys." Ashsong looked at him, smiling. "I love you too." She wrapped her red wing around him. It seemed to burn and glow. He felt hot and his throat began to clog. Coughing, he looked around wildly. The scene shifted his parents away, everything fading to a hot black.
He jerked himself awake to the smell of smoke. Part of his consciousness said it was just part of his dream, he was still asleep. It begged to go back to his favorite memory, but the truth opened his eyes wider. All around him, flames ate up the grass, leaving nothing but charred remains. He sneezed as he strained his eyes in the haze to find his family. He could just make out Cinderfrost wobbling in his direction. He tried to call out, but his throat was dry and scratchy.
His twin stumbled to her knees beside him, her face, which flickered in the fire, was full of fear. "I can't find mom or dad," she cried. Ashfrost shook his head, and breathed out a cloud of misty cold. It extinguished the nearby fires and cleared the smoke somewhat. Ashfrost felt his voice coming back, and he whinnied shrilly. "Mom! Dad! Where are you?"
Pulling him and his sister up, the colt began to make his way around the field to where he had last seen his parents, using his ice breath only on the thickest clouds. Finally, he saw the white coat of his father, pacing anxiously and staring up at the sky. Ashfrost shuffled closer. "D-Dad?" He asked, afraid to look up. Cinderfrost flapped her wings nervously.
Frostwing seemed to not hear, instead riveted on the scene above. Ashfrost realized he could hear the screams of other pegasi cutting through the crackling fire. He glanced at the sky and nearly collapsed. Everything faded as his senses focused on his mother. She stood, pushing back from the edge of the rocky outcropping against a bay mare. The mare snorted and neighed an overstallion call.
"Fire Herd is mine!" She screeched. Time seemed to slow down. Ashsong met her family's gaze, and a smile spread across her face. Her body heated up and glowed brighter than the surrounding flames. With a well-aimed kick, the new oversteed kicked Ashsong between her wings, paralyzing them.
Ashfrost screamed and lunged forward, feeling the rest of his family do the same. His mother toppled down, down. Even as she fell, her grey coat illuminated the night. Before their eyes, she burst into a flume of flames before drifting down in a pile of ashes. A single feather rested on top.
Tears blurred his vision as Ashfrost slid to a stop beside her remains. Nothing mattered. The new leader of Fire Herd trotted to inform the herds, the fires slowly went out. But everything was insignificant to the pain that had opened up and broken the small family. They stood together, wings wrapped around the other in silence. In agony. In remembrance. Ashsong was dead.
this is amazing!!!!!!!!!
one thing tho... remember since @Morningmist was never on DOA, we all voted and said Smokewing was the overstallion with Foxflame as his second-in-command
