Im so excited to have you guys read this, and have worked really hard on this so please tell me what you like or did not like, (please note that this was a big vague bc it was so much to pack into a short story and im making a chapter book of it soon!!
So before you read here is a back ground.
This was based off @Lightray defenders of anok,
So the last black foal is gone and the land walkers invaded Anok so all the pegasi moved to a hidden New Anok, and the pegasi now have powers, where each herd is in charge of an element.
there is Fire Herd, Ice Herd, Water Herd, Shadow Herd, Earth Herd and Storm Herd. For this short strory only Fire Herd and Ice Herd will be mentioned. Enjoy!
Thunderheart
Broken
Written by Thunderheart (Oaksong)
A warm breeze played with a tall, bay stallion’s mane tossing it this way and that. He looked around arching his neck- seeing a lush green meadow dotted with pegasi, mares grazed while weanlings and foals fluttered around. Looking up he saw his over stallion, SmokeWing, drill his captains. The stallion’s eyes grew bigger wishing he was one of those captains, to be able to lead a battalion and to help lead Fire Herd’s army. “Thunderheart there you are!” a squeal of a young weanling drew him out of his daydream. Slowly, he turned his majestic bay head, revealing a thin white blaze.
“Heartfrost,” He nickered as the filly galloped toward him, her red tip black wings rattling. The filly was the same color as Thunderheart. Heartfrost looked up to her big brother,
“Can we please play? Please!” she begged her eyes big and bright. Thunderheart nodded his approval.
“ Let’s play Morningleaf and Star! ” she whinnied
“We just played that!” Thunderheart nickered, love filled in his chest for his younger sister.
“I know, but I want to play it again” . The bay stallion nodded his head again, his long forelock fell in front of his eyes. Heartfrost whinnied excitedly as she lifted off the ground- flying towards her favorite meadow to play. The meadow was small with an even smaller lake near it, she loved playing there because she could be alone with her brother. She landed with no pegasi in sight.
“I’ll be Morningleaf and you can play as Star and it is your first birthday, when he heals her!” Heartfrost said as she pinned her ears, while her legs shook. The young bay filly looked as if she was watching her father deliver the death blow to her dearest friend. Thunderheart folded his red tipped teal wings neatly on his back kneeling with his head down as he played along. He heard a flutter of wings and looked up to see a blur of black and red. He lunged forward as Heartfrost pretend to crash to the ground.
“MORINGLEAF!” he trumpeted as he rushed to his little sister. Ratling his feathers as if he was distressed. Heartfrost moved one of her wings to an odd angle pretending she broke it.
“I…I can’t move..” she nickered, squinting her eyes as if Thunderheart was far away. “Don’t be sad, Isee our ancestors.” Thunderheart lifted his head toward the sky pretending he saw pegasi of the past as his sister spoke.
“Can you use your starfire to heal me?” her tone flipped as she broke character. Thunderheart pricked his ears at the mention of starfire, warm sparks popped in his throat ready. He quickly tried to keep it down, uneasy. He was the descendant of ThunderWing the great stallion in Star’s time and his filly foaled his ancestor. At birth he surprisingly received just a tiny bit of starfire and was the only pegasi that had their herd power plus the starfire.
“Heartfrost, you know i'm not allowed to use it,” he answered quickly
“Please!”
“No, I'm sorry but I can't. What if someone sees it, you know the herd is already watching me.”
“Please, we are all alone, no pegasi will see it, please just a tiny bit” Thunderheart rolled his eyes as his sister prodded him.
“Fine, but just for a little bit, i don’t even know what i can do,” he finally answered as Heartfrost brusted in excited whinnies. “Rise, Morningleaf,” he trumpeted as he played his part, opening his mouth, golden fire shot out of his mouth. Heartfrost squealed as she started to float the warm golden fire wrapping her like a blanket. She laughed as she started to roll around in the air. However, her joy turned into fear when a shadow blocked the sun out. Thunderheart quickly extinguished the starfire, dropping Heartfrost. He tilted his head skyward to see a huge chestnut stallion, smoke colored feathers fell down as the overstallion of Fire Herd landed.
Smokewing flared his gray wings, his neck arched.
“Thunderheart follow me!” he brayed then he turned walking slowly away. The bay stallion followed as he turned his head back to see his sister standing there now alone. They walked a bit until no pegasi could hear them. “So, do you have the silver fire too?” Smokewing slurred
“What?! Umm no… why?” Thunderheart said, looking down.
“For power! You are the only pegasi that has the starfire and I could use that right about now. So again I ask you, do you have the silver fire?”
“ I don’t know.. I never tired,”
“Never tried. You could possibly help Fire Herd, destroying the other four herds until Fire Herd rules Anok! Yet you waste your power on floating your sister!” Smokewing brayed, curling his lip in disgust.
“No, I never tried. I only have a small amount of the starfire, you know this Sir,” Thunderheart replied standing straight. The over stallion lashed his tail annoyed.
“Then you should better find out and use it!” Smokewing spat, flapping his massive wings as he hovered in the sky he flicked his tail again. If I had some of that starfire I would make the other four hers bow to Fire Herd! He harshly thought as he flew away.
Heartfrost wondered to her mother, Dawnash, waiting until her brother would come back, Dawash nickered to her filly as she continued to graze. Suddenly, an ear piercing bray was heard. Heartfrost pinned her ears as it caused a headache behind her ears. Within seconds six thousand warriors and battle mares filled the sky, almost blocking out the sun’s light. Heartfrost looked up and knew that all of Fire Herd’s army was present. Dawnash’s eyes widened with terror as she shoved Heartfrost twards the woods
“Take shelter!” she neighed as they galloped by hoof into the woods. Heartfrost continued to look up knowing somewhere was her brother, her eyes scanned the pegasi until they rested on a tall bay stallion with teal and red wings. Her ears pricked forward as she saw Thunderheart and other stallions move out of formation to the Overstallion, by the arch of his neck and by him puffing his chest Heartfrost knew that Smokewing made her brother a captain. Thunderheart now Thunderfire bowed to the over stallion before joining the formation again.
When the sun was starting to set Thunderheart now Thunderfire landed next to his mother and Heartfrost. Dawnash rushed towards him, her tail chaenched between her legs, while Heartfrost galloped over to him. “What’s going on?!” Dawnash brayed her feathers rattling “Why was all of Fire Herd present today?” Thunderfire took a deep breath before answering his mother as he looked down at Heartfrost who wrapped her wings around him.
“Fire Herd is going to war with Ice Herd” he answered
"NOOOO!” bleated Heartfrost looking up as her brother. She knew that because he is now a captain, Thunderfire would have to leave with the army. She was glad that he became one though, as long as she could remember her brother longed to be a captain of the army but that meant he would leave her.
“When do you leave?” Asked Dawnash
“At dawn..” Thunderfire said heavily. Heartfrost started to cry at her brother’s words, begging him not to leave. She could not stand the thought of having Thunderfire leave her, they always did stuff together even though he was much older. “Heartfrost, please don;t cry, i'll be back in less than 7 days,” he nickered nuzzling Heartfrost
“Don’t leave me” she cried into Thunderfire’s thick black mane.

Thunderfire flew at the head of the v formation, his large body creating a wake for his platoon. He looked back as Fire Herd and his family shrunk in the distance, he was going to miss Heartfrost and he wished he could stay with her. Thunderfire arched his neck. What are you talking about! This is your dream, you can’t get too attached! He thought harshly to himself. He forced himself to look forward, his warrior blood tingling as they flew closer and closer.
The next day of flying went smoothly without incident. On the third day they crossed Ice Herd’s border. Thunderfire brayed orders to his section of the army and they flew faster. Blood rushed through all of their bodies, the war was coming and it was so close they could taste it. Thunderfire pricked his ears as he heard the unmistakable cry of Ice Herd’s overstallion to assemble his army. They flew faster as IceHerd’s first battle line soared towards them. ThunderFire let out a battle cry as he rushed forward, time slowed as the two armies clashed. Three large Ice Herd stallions caught him in mid flight using their ice powers to freeze his wings. He nickered as his wings exploded with red fire. With ears pricked the ice melted off him, he was going to enjoy this for Ice Herd’s powers would not work against Fire Herd, meaning that soon both herds would forget their powers for fighting. One of the Ice Herd stallions grabbed Thunderfire’s wing. He bit his lip holding back a cry of pain as his sharpened hooves kicked and sliced the other stallion’s mint green wings. Blood stained the mint green feathers to red as the stallion fell, his wings giving out. Red stained feathers exploded as the stallion hit the ground and was motionless.
“You’ll pay for that!” the third stallion brayed as he lunged for Thunderfire’s throat. He struggled to get his wing out of the stallion's mouth by kicking madly while he tried to sink his teeth into the third stallion. However the stallion holding his wing jerked his head causing Thunderfire to go into a nose dive towards the ground. He flared his wings as he slowed his fall. Suddenly, his ears pricked as an ear piercing cry erupted, he whipped his head desperately trying to see who the scream belonged to. Then he spotted two Ice Herd stallions beating Moontwist into a daze, his seal bay coat stained in his own blood. He surged toward his friend. Moontwist trumpeted for help as the ice stallions tore his sky blue wings. Rage blinded Thunderfire as he heard his friend cry in pain. He flattened his ears as he flew faster towards the IceHerd stallions, he grabbed one of the stallions wings while he kicked the other. Both stallions forgot about moontwist and the glared at the bay stallion. Thunderfire was just about to deliver a death blow when time slowed for him. He felt something tearing his right eye. Blood blinded him as his world started to fade to darkness. His wings became lax as he plummeted towards the ground. His mind fading as his body crashed on the branches of a mighty pine tree. Pain seared through him as his world became black.

Heartfrost curled up into a tight ball; it had been 10 days since her beloved brother left her. Fire Herd’s army came back victorious but as the others celebrated, she felt empty. Even though Thunderfire’s battalion came back a day prior, her brother was not there. The whole day she waited, her feathers rattling as the warriors came in clumps. As the hours passed Heartfrost’s buzzing wings began to sag. She cried as she remembered going to all the warriors and battle mares asking if they saw her brother, but all of them said the same thing the last time they saw the proud bay stallion was at the beginning of the battle. Dawnash nickered seeing her little filly cry.
“I know you miss him, Heartfrost, so do I, but like Smokewing says Fire Herd does not cry…” her voice broke as she reminded herself as well. “For crying means weakness,”

Tangled in a mass of pine tree branches was Thunderfire’s limp body. He seemed lifeless other than a twitch of his skin when a pesky bug landed on his open wounds. Blood gushed and stained the tree where he landed. Thunderfire opened his eyes weakly or for the matter tried to open his eyes. His head throbbed as his left eye opened. Try as he might, he could not open his right eye yet there was a shearing pain through it. He slowly turned his head, showing his thin white blaze stained red. Thrashing around Thunderfire freed his wings from the branches of the massive tree. He flared his wings preparing to lift off, looking around he realized the war was over. Where is everyone? He thought seeing the battlefield empty besides dead bodies. Thunderfire winced at the pain as his vision blurred with blood, he had to find water quick. He soared over the land searching for any type of water to clean his wounds, he looked around confused. What am I doing? Where am I going? Questions pooled in his head he squinted seeing water, he dived towards it. Just a few feet away from the water his vision cleared as he landed head first into the land. Thunderfire pinned his ears knowing he could not trust his sight. He took off knowing he had to make it back to Fire Herd’s territory or he would die. Days dragged on as he did his best to make it back home, his love for his herd and Heartfrost motivating him to move. Thunderfire had gotten use to his right eye constantly throbbing and having fainting spells, his instinct guiding him back to Fire Herd’s territory.
Almost a week passed from the day of the battle, when Thunderfire spotted the giant meadow of Fire Herd’s main grazing land. His heart filled with hope. If he could just make it there everything would be alright. With pain inflicting his every move he finally made it; he tried to trumpet his arrival but a meek hoarse of a neigh came out, sounding more like a cry from a dying animal. Pegasi started swarming to where he was but instead of helping him they turned their heads, curling their lips in disgust. His own friends turned their heads away from him. Tears flooded his good eye, blinding him as he felt the ground meet him. With a whimper of pain. Thunderfire once again fell into a world of black.

Murmuring and disgusted grunts followed as Thunderfire laid motionless in the meadow. Smoke wing landed a few wing lengths away and his lip curled in utter disgust. His dark brown eyes glared at his captain. His body was packed with dirt, leaving a musty smell to him. However it was Thunderfire’s face that made Smokewing turn his head from him- his whole right side of his face was stained red, his eyes covered in pussy blood and bugs.
“Take this thing to the medicine mare or kill him now, I don't care.” he spat pointing one of his smokey wings to Thunderfire. He swiftly turned away from thunderfire, galloping into the sky, leaving the fate of the unconscious stallion to his warriors.
The warriors debated whether it was better to send the captain to the golden meadow or help him, until Moontwist spoke
“He saved my life! The least we can do is send him to the Medicine mare!”
“Why, look at the state he is in! If enemy stallions see him they will see his weakness! You know that Fire Herd shows no weakness no matter the cost,” brayed a seal bay stallion, flaring his jet black wings.
“If we send him to the Medicine Mare he will be fine once his wounds heal!” Moontwist roared, clacking his yellow teeth. The seal bay stallion shook his head.
“You heard what I think we should do with him.” his eyes burning with hatred as he harshly spat the words. Moontwist rattled his feathers with annoyance. His gaze met the seal bay’s eyes and their eyes locked both standing tall and defiant. Moontwist saw the rules that they each had been trained to follow in the stallions' eyes :Show no weakness, for weakening the herd is worse than death: they kept their eyes locked on one another. The tension growing around them, the Warriors stopped arguing and watched. Finally the seal bay broke eye contact, Leaving Moontwist as the winner.
“Help me carry Thunderfire to the medicine mare!” Moontwist ordered the other warriors. With two stallions at each of Thunderfire wings they dragged him to the Medicine mare.

Heartfrost flew as fast as she could, causing her small wings to blur. She pinned her ears as she heard her mother's brayes, but she did not care. A few minutes ago two strong warriors came to her and Dawnash, their battle scarred wings neatly folded on their backs informed them that Thunderfire had arrived. Then they whispered with her mother and that's when she escaped. The small filly did not care if Thunderfire was hurt; she just had to see him. Heartfrost spotted the Medicine mare Pearlsong. The medicine mare flared her wings at the fast movement. With ears pinned she turned ready to fight; however seeing the red tipped black wings she calmed herself arching her heavily spotted neck.
“Heartfrost you know that no one is allowed to see him!” she huffed, shooing the filly off with her bright blue wings. Heartfrost stood her ground looking up at the towering medicine mare.
“No.. not until I see my brother!” she replied, rattling her small wings. Pearlsong rolled her eyes as an ear piercing bray formed from her mouth. The bray was a warning, for Pearlsong snaked her neck ready to strike Heartfrost if she stepped closer. “Please… i'm worried about him” she stuttered, tears forming in her eyes. Pearlsong striked biting Heartfrost on the neck, but not hard, only as a warning.
“Learn your place Heartfrost.” she snorted, softening a bit. “And respect authority, If you did your life would be easier,” she quickly turned away, swishing her long curly gray tail to emphasize her point.
Heartfrost’s head and wings saged defeated Why couldn’t she understand I just want to see my brother? She thought sadly sitting on her hunched as tears fell from her face.
She quickly covered her tear damp face with her wings so that no pegasi would see her weakness.

Two moons passed ever so slowly, Smokewing won more land from Ice Herd, and the Fire Herd pegasi seemed to forget about the past battle, everyone except Heartfrost and Thunderfire.
Thunderfire stretched his large neck as he tried to look at the sky. The throbbing in his right eye had passed but what took its place was worse, nothing. He lowered his head instead of being a strong captain; he was now a one eyed weakness to the Fire Herd Army. He felt empty, for during the first moon no one was allowed to see him and for the second the pegasi pretended he was invisible. With a deep sigh he thrusted his lage bay body up, onto his hooves. He winced as the brightness of the sun and the nats bit at his newly healed scar, which had taken the place of his right eye. Thunderfire covered his face with his wings as blue and red feathers fell to the ground. As he walked to a shallow river he felt a sudden pain in his chest, causing him to cough. Suddenly memories of the past two moons fill his mind, Smokewing telling him he should have just died, his old friends turning their backs on him and lastly Pearlsong not letting his little sister see him. His mind began to fog up with dark feelings causing him to cough more. He grimaced as his one good eye changed to a deep silver color, his cough changing into silver sparks. He flared his wings as silver sparks ran up them. Lastly his kind and loyal heart hardened by the pain both mentally and physically, suffocating all good thoughts, all hope.
here is a pic of him:)
