Chapter 4: Escape
Stormsong slipped out from underneath Dawnlight’s wing and cautiously trotted towards the woods. She couldn’t watch her mother die, but she couldn’t help her either. She decided to escape.
She pricked her ears and turned her head towards Storm Herd. She bit her lip, but she knew she had to leave, for she had no place there. Stormsong knew that the others were starting to worry about her upcoming birthday, and so was she. What would it feel like, having powers?
Suddenly, she heard the shuffling of hooves. Stormsong quickly hid behind a bush, and peeked through the leaves, but she couldn’t hide herself fully because of her wings.
“Hi, Stormsong,” said a voice. It was Skyfall! And behind her stood Emeraldsun, and Emeraldsun’s older brother, Thundersnow!
“Uh....hi guys,” Stormsong said. She smiled at them.
“Were coming with you,” Skyfall said, “I don’t want to be here when they die.” She looked at the sick steeds, and gave Stormsong a sad gaze. Stormsong looked down at her hooves, her eyes glassy.
Then Stormsong shook her head. “You can’t come with me,” she said.
“Were coming, you need us,” Emeraldsun said.
Thundersnow nodded.
Stormsong frowned, but she was secretly glad. She didn’t want to live alone, or travel to the Landwalkers, which is what she planned to do, alone.
“Where are we going?” Skyfall asked.
“To the Territory of the Landwalkers,” Stormsong answered.
Thundersnow reared. “Why would we go there? It’s too far away, we can’t bring them to Storm Herd, and besides, there dangerous!” Thundersnow said.
“I know,” said Stormsong, “But that’s not why I want to go to them. In the old legends, it said that other pegasi, tame pegasi, that are called Kihlari, live there. I want to meet them, and set them free,” Stormsong really did want to meet them. She remembered that the stories said the Landwalkers ride on the backs of their Kihlari, and the tame steeds adore their Riders. She didn’t tell anyone, but she wanted to get caught. She wanted that life.
“How would you set them free?” Emeraldsun asked.
“Uh.....,” Stormsong looked up at the Hundred Year Star.
“Oh,” Emeraldsun said.
Skyfall slid closer to Stormsong. “I’m coming with you,” she whispered. “And I know the real reason you want to go.”
Stormsong looked at her in surprise, but then turned away. She wondered what she was getting herself into.
That is great!
