Wintermoon slowly glided to the small ravine that met the treeline. Pebbleroot stood, organizing roots and whatever was left of the berries from the last spring.

”Pebbleroot?” Wintermoon limped down the steep rocky path that led down into the ravine.

”hmm?” Pebbleroot answered, not entirely listening.

”I uh...I forgot to collect roots like you asked. It was foolish of me, i’m sorry.” Wintermoon uttered.

”eh, I have enough supplies to last us until spring gets here anyways.” She replied calmly, and Wintermoon let out a sigh of relief that Pebbleroot wasn’t mad.

Wintermoon turned to walk away, but remembered she was hurt, but before she could say something Pebbleroot gasped.

”Wintermoon!” she paused, taking a breath. ”I forgot to check on the mothers!”

Pebbleroot raced out of the ravine with some roots in her mouth and a determined look on her face.

Wintermoon was too shocked to breath. The world seemed to spin around her. Pebbleroot hadn’t even noticed her limping or of she did, she didn’t say anything. She had always thought of Pebbleroot as a friend.

”No.” Wintermoon thought to herself. ”I’m being selfish. Those mothers need her more than I need her, I can manage on my own anyways.”

But as she limped up the steep incline, black flowers slowly rose from the dirt and snow as she felt the tears fall.

This was another reason why she was deeply despised.

I glance at the tired faces and look up at the sky. It was way later than usual. The mothers were going to kill

me.

”Off to bed now, all of you!” I started to gently nudge the snoozing foals off the they’re mothers.

”aww.” Mintfeather whined tiredly.

”I know. there are just not enough hours in the day.
