Nightmist was trotting around the land sniffing in every corner. She lifted her head as the cold heart of night began to fall. She sighed and cantered back to the herd to rest. Cave Herd hadn't found land yet so they settled every few days. She settled down beside Honeyroot in her new work space for the Medicine-Mare Den.

"Night Nightmist," Whispered Honeyroot and she then nickered at how weird that sounded.

"Goodnight Honeyroot," Nightmist nickered. The work space was in a grove big enough for about three or four pegasi at once. Vines had crept up the walls over time and it was quite bare except for moss patches here and there. A stash of roots was in the very back organized by species and type of plant or tree they came from.

Nightmist flicked her ears in her sleep. A dream had sliveered through her mind. It was a memory. She was in a pond freezing to death. She had been only a foal at this time.... 2 years ago. Star Herd had found her when a patrol was sent up to gather fresh water to store. They had taken care of her. SHe had no relatives in the world and was quite a lonely foal in her foalhood.

SHe awoke in a sweat. She looked around. It was still midnight and everyone was still asleep. A breeze ruffled her mane as she walked out of the grove. The land was dry.

The pond beside the grove had lowered quite extremely and the grass had been grazed clean off the world. She trotted around the snoozing Cave Herd., and cantered into a wood a cople winglengths away. The wood was dark and the trees were very tight and close together. They were also very tall so there was room to move on the ground. Where am i? She thought. A large tree had fallen to the ground and Nightmist jumped it with ease.

The shadows came alive almost, and as if they were watching her... She glared and pinned her ears. She had no fear for where she was and flared her wings trying to make herself look larger than she actually was. Two glownig eyes peered out of the brush. She gritted her teeth. A medium sized brown bear walked out on two paws. She knew she couldn't defeat it so she tried something that she never needed to use.

The bear growled and she jumped. The bear was ready and swiped at her but found he was only swiping air. She had dived towards the ground and gone under him. She pulled hard on the bears fluffy tail and he shrieked in his own bear way. He fell to four paws and Nightmist dashed around him. The bear had been ready again and caught her wings. He shredded them as she struggled to get away into the darkness of night.

She shrieked as the bear clubbed her over the head and everything went black. The only other thing she heard was a whinny and a thump hard enough to make a tree fall...........
