They shook their heads, refusing to leave their sister behind. They attacked the lead mare, furious. “Don’t you dare try to take over our herd! You were a lead mare, but you aren’t now!” said Thunderfrost, demoting the older mare to a normal pegasus. Stormcloud, who is now Stormheart, glared at the foals. She turned away and galloped away from the herd, embarrassed.
“We did it!” squealed Springsky.
Thunderfrost growled and hugged Springsky. “Finally. . . she’s gone. But, what about our mother? Who’s gonna take over the herd now? We can’t, we’re only foals!” he said. Sunwing trotted over, his expression sad. “I’m sorry for your loss,” he said to the foals. Nightshade smiled and hugged him. “We need a new lead mare. . .”
Sunwing nodded. Nightshade looked up at the Hundred Year Star. Despite her traumatic life so far, she couldn’t wait for her birthday.
A few more weeks passed, and now it was the day of the black foals’ birthdays.
Nightshade trotted around, nervous. Winterwing flew to the foals. “Father?” asked Thunderfrost, nervous. Thunderfrost backed up and lifted off, flying toward the star, his blood boiling. How could his father come here and show up as if nothing happened? His own father had abandoned his colt for an accident! Winterwing flew after his son. “Thunderfrost, wait!”
The star crackled, and a golden beam of light reached toward Thunderfrost, as well as the other foals. Thunderfrost opened his mouth, golden and silver light filling him. Once he felt full, he managed to turn his fire silver. He smiled and then cackled. “This is your fault, Winterwing.” he said, spitting out the name. Winterwing hovered, fear in his eyes. Thunderfrost shot a small burst of silver fire at Winterwing’s face, burning it terribly. Nightshade flew as fast as she could, tackling Thunderfrost. “Thunder, stop! You can’t do this! You have a choice to make. Do you want to follow the path of Nightwing, or the path of Starwing? You need to choose!”
Thunderfrost rolled over, tears of rage spilling from his eyes. “I’ll follow Nightwing’s path, just so I can destroy my father! He doesn’t deserve mercy! He showed me none when he abandoned me!” he screamed. Springsky flew to Winterwing and kindly shooed him away.
Thunderfrost rolled over and blasted Nightshade. “The only reason why my father abandoned me was because of his fear! I was scared when he abandoned me! He didn’t show me mercy, so now I’ll give him a taste of his own medicine.” he said, lifting off. Winterwing galloped through the forest. Thunderfrost trembled. He flew into the forest and found his father. “Hello, Father,” he said menacingly. Winterwing turned around and backed up, but was quickly cornered. He looked at Thunderfrost. “I’m sorry, Son,” he said, spreading his wings. “Do what you will. I will not hurt you.”
Thunderfrost smiled and bared his teeth, sending small, thin streams of silver fire through his teeth. The fire wrapped around Winterwing’s neck, slowly choking him. Nightshade flew toward Thunderfrost. She grabbed him in a beam of gold fire. “You need to stop this! I won’t have a brother who kills his father!” Thunderfrost grunted and let go of Winterwing, who collapsed. Thunderfrost growled and managed to get up. He calmed down and his boiling blood turned to ice. Winterwing got up and grabbed a large stick.
Thank you! They will, and I totally get why Thunderfrost wanted to kill his father, because he abandoned the poor colt!
TGH was very intense at some points! There was also a lot of tension and build up through TGH that made the intense bits so powerful.
I hope that the black foals sort things out in your story! They turn so quickly on one another, but they are grieving the lose of their mother.
Was TGH not intense?
Wow, this is kinda intense
