Rosewind watched the land roll by her hooves, numb. She had been captured, along with her friends, Sapphire, Lightsong, and Summerbreeze.

The worst part of it was thinking of the argument she had had with her mom earlier that day. Now she could never say that she was sorry.

She remembered that argument and the events that followed it clearly.

Only a weanling and not yet enrolled in flight school, Rosewind wasn’t allowed to fly to the clouds.

But Rosewind loved to fly, and that morning she had flown to the clouds anyway.

Rosewind smiled as she flew above the tree tops. The rush of wind flowing past her was exhilarating.

But Rosewind didn’t just stop there. She flew higher and higher, past the tallest tree and started to fly towards the clouds.

Rosewind extended her hoof, wanting to touch the clouds, but strong hooves brought her back down to earth.

Her mother came rushing to her as the friendly stallion set her down.

“What were you thinking?!?” Rosewind’s mother, Dewflower scolded.

Rosewind looked down at her hooves. “I-I-didn’t...”

“Oh that’s right. You didn’t think. Your wings aren’t strong enough to go that high!” Dewflower admonished.

“You will never understand!” Rosewind screamed, running off into the woods, wanting to be alone.

As the foreign stallions set Rosewind and her friends down, a few tears ran down her cheeks and she remembered what happened next.

Her friends had gone after her, trying to find out what was wrong. Just as she had told them, they had been captured by these foreign stallions.

Without telling them what was going on, the foreign pegasi pushed them into a cave and rolled a large stone in front. They were captured.

“It’s my fault that we are stuck here.” Rosewind nickered, downcast.

“It’s not your fault. It’s all of our faults. We should have noticed the sound of those enemy pegasi’s wing beats.” Sapphire nickered.

Lightsong nodded, agreeing with Saphire, but Summerbreeze glared.

“Well, we are stuck. We are probably going to die in this miserable cave.” Summerbreeze hissed.

They had already searched the cave throughly, twice, but had found no way of escape.

“Well, Summerbreeze, the only thing we can do is wait for someone to rescue us.” Lightsong whispered.

“Yeah right. Winterwing doesn’t care about captured weanlings. He wouldn’t risk a war to try to save us.” Summerbreeze huffed.

“We have to have hope. Winterwing would at least do something to negotiate for our release.” Sapphire nickered.

Rosewind sat quietly. She wanted to believe in what Sapphire said, but she couldn’t help but wonder in Summerbreeze was right.

A grating sound shook the cave and a few rocks fell off of the roof. Rosewind stood up in fright.

The rock began to slide away from the entrance. Light shone on the pegasus who had moved the rock.

Rosewind gasped. It was Dewflower. They had been rescued.

Rosewind ran to her mother. “I’m so sorry!” She cried. “I didn’t mean to make you worried!”

Dewflower hugged her back. “It’s okay.” She soothed. “I was a bit too harsh.”

Sapphire smiled and elbowed Summerbreeze with her wing. “I told you so.”

Later when Rosewind and the others got back to camp, they heard the full story from Winterwing.

They had been stolen by Mountain Herd pegasi, but not by the command of Cragwing. (The overstallion of Mountain Herd) A few yearlings had decided to make some mischief and stollen them anyway.

When Winterwing had confronted Cragwing about this, Cragwing had given them back immediately and punished the yearlings who had stolen them.

Rosewind was just glad that it was all over. Her mother allowed her to fly as high as she wanted, and Rosewind loved having more control.

For now, Rosewind was happy that she had a caring family and friends.
