The sky was black and the world was still as midnight came on the small herd. Little did they know that this would be the last night of normal as 2 marked foals went off on a quest that would change the world.
In Anok
"Shadowbrook wake up!" Nightstar whispered to her sleeping brother.
Shadowbrook groaned. "Go away I want to sleep!" He hissed into the dark night.
Nightstar gave him a gentle kick to the side. "No it's time to go.... Mama said so!" She whispered to him.
Shadowbrook got up with a groan and looked through the night at the solid star shining far far away. "We have to get to that star don't we?" He asked.
"Yes we do and we have to go now," She said starting to walk toward the far away star. They had to pass the sleeping herd and every step they took risked waking someone. They both had star shaped marks on their left shoulder and as they started their journy the star shaped marks began to glow!
On the other side of Anok
Windstrike stood shaking from his latest nightmare. "Mama?" he whispered hoping she could help calm him.
Lightstar woke up and looked at her shaking foal. "Come here Windstrike. Another nightmare?" She asked him as she wrapped him in a hug.
Windstrike nodded. "Yes and I was I was.... destroying and killing everything in my dream." He whispered.
Lightstar flinched, she knew how much these dreams troubled him. "You would never do something like that my son." She loved Windstrike with all her heart but there was one strange thing about him, he had a dark moon shaped mark on his right shoulder.
Windstrike whispered, "Mama am I weird?"
Lightstar shook her head, "No... now go to sleep little one."
Nightstar passed her dam and tears filled her eyes. "I love you!" She thought but it was to dangurous to speak.
Shadowbrook sighed when they made it past the sleeping herd. "I will miss them forever but I don't think we will ever come back." He whispered.
Nightstar winced. "They wont even miss us will they?" She asked him her voice sad as her tears hit the ground and small star like flowers sprouted up from the ground where the tears hit.
Shadowbrook shook his head, "I doubt it, we were always different and they always seemed to think we were a bother." He said as they walked farther. Soon they reached the lake and both dove in swimming for the shore.
Nightstar screamed as a curent grabbed her and pulled her under while at the same time sweeping her away from Shadowbrook.
Shadowbrook swam harder and managed to get away from the curent but Nightstar disapeared down stream.
Nightstar's head bobbed out of the water and she gulped air in before she was dragged under again. Hours later she surfaced and reached the shore. Hundreds of miles away from her home. She saw a small herd and a few foals with it. She, shaking from the cold water and the ehustion of the night, spoke quietly to a mare with a strangly marked foal, "Can I stay here for a while p please?"
Lightstar jerked away and looked at the shaking filly, "Yes my dear.... come here." She said raising her wing for the foal to lay under.
Windstrike woke and looked at the filly. He felt strangly connected to her and as the filly moved closer both their strange marks glowed.
Nightstar spoke up, "Your just like me..."
Windstrike knew what to say, "Yes I am."
