Cloud Dancers, Chapter 5

The four pegasi sat in silence, the tension building up. One by one they began to look at Fernpuddle for answers. There were so many questions boiling inside of Stormwhisper that she needed to ask. Hopefully, Fernpuddle would be able to answer them all. “So, are you going to explain Fernpuddle?” The filly said loudly, breaking the long lasting quietness.

Fernpuddle flinched, he didn’t exactly enjoy his sister raising her voice. But, she did have a voice. He was the only one who could explain anything. So, the colt cleared his throat and began to speak in a cracked up voice. “So, it all started when Mossbrook told us the legend of the white and the black foal. You remember that, right Stormsight?” His eyes questioning her hoping there was no need to re-tell it.

The filly nodded her head, just wanting him to get on with it already. “Well, last night when you were sleeping, I heard Smokewing talking about the Desertherd attack.” Larkfall flinched, it was one of his most gruesome battles to partake in. Fernpuddle continued dryly, “Well, he said that the reason the battle started was because Copperwing planned to execute the black foal.”

Trail had a blank look on his face. The news had been broken long ago that the colt wasn’t meant to live to a yearling, by Copperwing, the overstalion himself. “Well, I knew the black foal was around our age… And I couldn’t let that happen…”

Stormwhisper knew that she was about to get herself into a long story. So she folded her wings and comfortably tucked her legs under her chest. By the looks of it, Trail and Larkfall began to do the same. They most likely had heard the story before, so she could tell that something big was about to be told.
