Later that day while the four friends were grazing, Moondancer lifted her head from the delicous desert grass. She gazed out in the distance, her ears pricked, her eyes trained on the distance, and her feathers were shedding a lot. Smoke arose from the distance. She went wide eyed, and then trumpeted a warning to the herd, and the herd began to stampede. It was horrible, most steeds flew into the air and watched the stampeding steed.

Moondancer was terrified and she flew to her mothers side.

"Mother whats happening!" Moondancer squealed in horror.

"Its ok just stay calm ill tell you about it but right now we need to take cover!" Winterleaf whinnied and reared and then flew up into the sky with her daughter right behind her.

Moondancer felt the horror within every steed as thundering hooves approached.Then something had caught her eye.

A filly was in the way of the thundering hooves! Moondancer dashed toward her and pulled the frightened filly to safety right before they were trampled. The filly was breathing hard, and then sommething caught Moondancer eye, a splattered streak of blood was on the filly's throat. Moondancer tensed and whinnied an alarm for Searoot Stormblaze's mother the medicine mare. Searoot dashed to the broken and dry grove the filly and Moondancer were under.

Right away Searoot saw the problem and told Moondancer could leave. Then Moondancer gazed at the dust. They were horses! Moondancer looked at them in wonder. Then she walked right out and was in the way of the stampeding horses!

She covered her head with her wings. For she realized what she had just done. She braced for the pain. And the feeling of death, and she listened to the frightened whinnies and neighs of her mother. She heard the thundering hooves but felt nothing, and no pain at all, but only the thrill of flying.
