CHAPTER THREE

“I WILL NOT HAVE THE DESTROYERS DAUGHTER IN OUR HERD!” Smokehopper yelled as he reared up to fight Starwing. “AND I WILL NOT HAVE A MARE LEFT TO DIE BECAUSE OF SOMETHING HER PARENTS DID!” Starwing brayed. The two stallions faced each other, eyes glinting and nostrils flaring. Lighfrost was confused. What did he mean by ‘the destroyers daughter?’ She had heard stories of her father defeating an evil stallion named Nightwing but she didn’t know that he had a daughter! “What’s going on?” Crystalwave asked her. “I don’t know!” Lightfrost answered. She bleated for her mother as Starwing and Smokehopper reared and started to fight. Smokehopper sliced her father’s shoulder with his sharp hooves and Starwing ripped out chunks of his mane. As the two stallions fought, Lightfrost looked around for her mother. She saw a glimpse of chestnut and aqua through the crowd of pegasi and she loped to her mother’s side. “Come with me.” Morningcloud whinnied. Lightfrost, Oaktail, Sunstorm and Crystalwave followed Morningcloud to a little grove of trees far away from the fighting. Morningcloud nickered anxiously and nuzzled the foals. “What’s going on Mama?” Oaktail asked. Morningcloud looked around at the field and sighed. “Nightwing’s daughter was found in the woods by Feather lake.” She replied looking distant. “I don’t understand. How did she get there?” Sunstorm asked, rattling his feathers. “We can only guess for now. Riversun is with Sweetroot and Skyblaze so until she wakes up we don’t know anything.” Morningleaf flared her wings. “I am going to see how Starwing is doing. Flamesky will be here soon.” She lifted off gracefully and flew back to the fight. Lightfrost suddenly felt tired so she curled up and waited for Crystalwave and Sunstorm’s mother to arrive.
