Day Four, When It All Happened

Lightray slouched, another day of practice.

"Twenty-seven laps, now." Smokeray demanded. Lightray fluttered his wings and did twenty-seven warm up laps, and then came back.

"You ready?"

"For what?"

"Were going to fly the jet-streams today. Think about it, my son the best flier in the herd. You'll beat this over-stallion easily." He whinnied pridefully.

"NO! I'm to young! My wings will break once in!!"

"Oh, you'll do fine. Go." He nosed his side pushing him foward, but not this time, Lightray held his ground.

"No!"

"YOU WILL!" He pushed him to the edge of the cliff.

"NO!"

"You.. WILL!" Smokeray brayed.

"I WON'T!' Lightray whirled around and bucked him square in the chest. Smokeray fell sideways and coughed blood. Lightray arched his neck, not today. It went quiet for a few deadly moments, the only noises was Smokeray coughing blood and panting. Smokeray wiped the blood off his lip with his wing, standing up his eyes narrowed and filled with fury. That was the last straw. Smokeray galloped towards him, teeth bared, ears pinned, ready to give him the death blow. Lightray shut his eyes, accepting his fate. Just then Lightmist galloped towards him and stood infront of her son, taking the blow for him. Lightmist fell to the ground, eyes wide open, her body quivering from the blow, blood flowing out of the center of her forhead, all gore and blood. Lightray was paralyzed.

"Mom..?" Lightray asked shakidly.

"Aww, it's okay mommy. C'mon ma, get up, come on, I got you it's okay, you're okay. Come on." Lightray said in a cheerful voice that sounded like he lost his mind, he used his wings to pull her up. "Come on mommy." Lightmist had her eyes wide open and blank, she was dead. Lightray snapped back into reality.

"MOMMY!" He screamed, sobbing into her shining cremello mane. Lightmist laid there lifeless, if only Lightray died instead, he would have taken it, not Lightmist. Anyone but his dam.

"You killed her." Smokeray whispered. Lightray stood up.

"YOU KILLED HER!!!" Smokeray trumpetted and bolted after him, Lightray bolted to, running for hours and hours until he hid behind a tree, Smokeray gave up and head back, but now he was lost. Lost until he met River Herd, after he told them his story even Star felt sorry and took him in, he was given a step-mother so he could drink and survive, and when he was just a weanling, he was teaching his first and best friend Rainfeather to fly, a year being together and he never told Rainfeather his heart-breaking story. Indeed he was scarred, but everything changed when Elmwing took over. THEN he was miserable until he was captured and was transported out of Anok. The thing is, Rainfeather fell in love with Lightray for his gentle grace and kind word, it reminded her of the legend Grasswing, he went through so much, and with this became wiser. Yes Lightray witnessed his mother die in front of her eyes, had a abusive father, witnessed River Herd get captured by Elmwing and witnessed Mavlyn when he was captured, but there is something else he didn't know. His father joined Elmwing, and he was one of his most famous followers. But enough of his hard life. This shows that Lightray made it through his unfortunate four days, and lived on, and his life only got better.
