@Iceberry I think there are a lot of different “backstories” and correct me if im wrong, but there are many different traditions it cane from. Personally I grew up around catholics and in the catholic tradition halloween comes from all saints day (which is actually today so happy all saints day to anyone who celebrates it) where people used to dress up as saints and eventually expanded into monsters etc. I do beleive there is a big Irish background/influence, as well as a pagan background. Also im sure dia de los muertos, (day of the dead; which also starts today so happy dia le los muertos to anyone who celebrates it) heavily influenced it as well. Sorry I keep remembering more but ancient rome had a midyear celebration for the dead a lot like dia de los muertos called mundus patet (meaning the world is clear. In this tradition they would do a sort of ritual to cleans the earth of bad spirits and welcome good ones) Not super sure though. I agree I would love to hear more about it.

Lmao sorry i went into such detail. I grew up taking spanish and im taking latin this year so i know a lot about those two haha.

@Starleaf Yeah, that's one of the stories. I know there are a lot, so looking back, it isn't really fair to say ALL stories are cruel and evil, but the original version was bad. I can't remember all the details, but I know people would sacrifice their kids then hang up the skeletons on their doors to ward off evil spirits. (Or something like that) As I said, don't take this a 100% correct.
