She would never forget the day U.S. Military soldiers came to her house and yelled that she had 10 minutes to grab her stuff to bring. in tears she ran to her beloved horses, Clinton and Romeo. However the soldiers only laughed, saying that she would not not need horses where she was going... And sadly she never saw her beloved horses again, and was never the same.

She and her family were hard at work in the fields before she went through the portal as food scarcity was a looming threat.

Personality: She can be a bit blunt and does not like to censure herself, a bit suspicious when she firsts meets new people. Her wit has proved to be her best weapon and has saved her from a few situations. She is also very hardworking and will toil for hours without complaint.

Background: Nathan is a French soldier, specifically a Chasseur of the Light Infantry. He enters the portal after being left behind by his comrades during the disastrous retreat from Russia. He had contracted typhus, but his regiment was starving and had to continue to march without him. He’s fought in multiple campaigns. Some of his early memories are of the chaos of the Revolution days (especially the frenetic protests and bread riots) from when he lived in Paris, where his grandparents operated a bakery. He is loyal to Napoleon for the order he brought to France while preserving some of the Revolutionary ideals. He does realize that other freedoms have been curtailed and the conflicts are endless, but at least it is better than the Monarchy or the First Republic.

What do you guys think of a very sheltered homeschooled/Christian girl? I was thinking of another character to make and that came up into my imagination. Her mama is bed ridden with some sort of illness, but they don't have the money to pay for the medicine she needs. And on top of everything, the Day family is under pressure from the state government to sell their land, but her Pa refuses to sell since it'll put his family out on the street.

Appearance: small girl, only about 5'3, slim build, tanned skin, long brown hair that she normally wears tied back with a bandanna, violet eyes, faint freckles across her nose. She showed up in Anok wearing almost waaaaaay to warn out overalls, flannel shirt, and to big men's boots.

Background: Uriah is from a West Virginia mining town. He family is African American and his parents are former slaves, though Uriah was born free. His father supported their large family as a miner, but after losing his arm in an accident he lost his job. That was a difficult time for the family and often Uriah went hungry. Eventually he had to drop out of school and start working. He has the mind of a scientist and a lot of ideas on how to make the mine better, but he has to be careful on how he gets them implemented and never gets credit.

Appearance: Dark skinned, with a little under an inch of tightly coiled black hair teased upward, dark brown eyes, and some acne scars on his temples and under his eyes.

Personality: Friendly and vivacious, has an average outlook on life (not positive or negative). He prefers to focus on logic but this does not make him insensitive. Due to his identity, he often is forced to repress his indignation at the injustice he sees.

Note: Though better than most places, there was still a lot of racism in West Virginia. Uriah is very careful around white people, as offending one could lose him his job or even cost him his life. Another aspect to his upbringing was the common rejection of homosexuality, for religious and cultural reasons. Uriah has never heard of any gay couples, and growing up, he never told anyone about his crushes on boys because he believed they were sinful. Of course, this may all change…
